I was the child abused by Doherty, as mentioned in the article. I want to correct a piece of information.

In the penultimate paragraph it says, "...the parish where the homosexual abusing priest Fr Thomas Doherty left his slimy trail when he was imprisoned on 5 counts of buggery of children". This is wrong. The counts were against him on the abuse of one child which was me. Also the counts were not all of buggery. Here are the actual counts:

Count 1: Indecent Assault on a Male Person, contrary to section 15 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act 1956 - Guilty

Count 2: Indecent Assault on a Male Person, contrary to section 15 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act 1956 - Guilty

Count 3: Attempted Buggery, contrary to Section 1 (1) of the Criminal Attempts Act 1981 - Not Guilty (on directiion from the judge on lack of evidence: no case to answer)

Count 4: Attempted Buggery, contrary to Section 1 (1) of the Criminal Attempts Act 1981 - Guilty

Count 5: Buggery, contrary to Section 12 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act 1956 - Guilty

Count 6: Count 5: Buggery, contrary to Section 12 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act 1956 - Guilty

There were more occasions than the 6 counts actually brought against him but there was no evidence to back the charges.

Doherty's verdicts accrued him a total of 22 years imprisonment but he served the sentences concurrent and therefore 6 years, which was the longest of the individual sentences; that for Buggery.

He served 4 of those 6 and was released in February 2002. I do not know where he is now, I believe he is somewhere back in the Salford Diocese.

Hope that clarifies!
